This workshop is for anyone looking to develop a new business or product, change their existing business or add a new skill.

How do you start a new business? How do we compete against AI, Silicon Beach and Robots? Do we need a new Facebook, and does a business idea really need to be that big and complex? The problems seem so large that it’s difficult to get your head around and see light at the end of the tunnel.

We start with a presentation that discusses these technology challenges, and look at some successful regional innovators for some inspiration. The session will move into providing participants with some tools to help solve these complex problems using the solutions focussed methodology – Design Thinking.

The Design Thinking workshop teaches participants how to use empathic / user-focussed research to find the core of their users’ problem and to validate their project ideas. Further, participants learn how to ideate and prototype various solutions which can then be developed into highly usable products and procedures.

At the workshop’s core is the Stanford Design School’s Design Thinking process. Mixed throughout are insights into why the method works and easy ways to start/use each step. Over 2 hours, stakeholders will research a challenge, interview users, define a problem statement, ideate multiple solutions and prototype a result.

Participants learn the principles of Stanford’s Design Thinking that can then be applied in your own world, life and business.

Businesses do not have to be big and complex, but can produce a small product that solves a big problem

A process to breakdown a complex problem to make it solvable

Become user focussed and empathetic to their problems to help design a product/solution
